If you wait till spring you will have the tall grass flying all over your yard, and if you happen to cut the grass too late in the spring it could cut off the tips of any new leaves that have started to grow. Cut them all in the fall – it is neater and you are all ready for spring. It is not going to give you that much visual joy over winter compared to the mess in the spring.
